Sunshine Blogger Award

Hi there!

I took some off time, because I needed [and still need] a break. Taking an occasional break is crucial for me, it gives me time to recharge which in-turn keeps blogging exciting. When taking off I expect less traffic so won’t check my stats and notifications daily [read: hourly] as I usually do. I try to get myself interested in something other than blogging, like reading and looking for other things to do.

I was, therefore, very [pleasantly] surprised when I saw a comment by the wonderful Shweta notifying me that she nominated me for the “Sunshine Blogger Award!” I’m grateful and humbled that a fellow blogger appreciates my writing, and in this case it’s a mutual admiration [this post is one of my favorites]. I love getting awarded, I think we all do. So thank you Shwerta.

This is my second blogging award, you can see here for my perspective on these awards. I would just like to add one point to what I wrote there; that another benefit of these awards is that you get to learn about each other, and that’s nice [most of the time;)].

Okay, now the rules:

  • Thank the person(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog. Check (Gladly)
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award.
  • Write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules. Check
  • Display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or on your blog. Check

Now to answering 11 questions:

What is the inspiration behind your blog?

I don’t really know. I’m very influenced by the teachings and lessons of the Rabbis throughout the generations, and the inspiration I derive from their lessons is what I can further transmit to my readers. They primarily cared about the nobility and perfection of human character and moral justice. Add to that the philosophical whys and hows and whats, and that’s my blog.

Title of your blog? Why this title?

Hasidism is what shaped me and brought me up. While in my mind I’ve chosen to explore other venues and roads less traveled, my heart will forever belong to Hasidism.

How do you define yourself?

If you’re looking for one word, it is probably something like: lost; seeking; falling; yearning; scared… The real picture is probably more of a blend of the last three questions.

What do you like more? A book or a movie?

Movies are more entertaining in the sense that it makes the story more alive. But the flip side is that it takes all the real life out of the characters and you just killed a great piece of art.

Is there a place where you would like to visit again and again?

I don’t think so. I really would love to find such a place.

What was the best thing about your day today?

My beautiful family.

Something that made you smile today. What?

Don’t mean to sound grouchy, but I didn’t smile yet today. [ouch!]

If you re-read books what book is your most read? If you don’t re-read books what book would you want to re-read if you could?

The Sabbath, By Abraham Joshua Heschel.

What is the earliest memory you have?

I don’t remember my earliest memory 😉 [I seriously wrote that before I realized that it’s a ridiculous statement]. I think that I vaguely remember my Upsherin ceremony.

[This is Wikipedia’s description: In the Hasidic community, the upsherin marks a male child’s entry into the formal educational system and the commencement of Torah study. A yarmulke and tzitzis will now be worn, and the child will be taught to pray and read the Hebrew alphabet. So that Torah should be “sweet on the tongue,” the Hebrew letters are covered with honey, and the children lick them as they read.]

If you could go back in time and talk to anyone who would you choose?

That’s a hard one. Part of me would want to chat with my late father that I hadn’t seen since I was 11; or my beloved grandfather whom I so terribly miss. Another part of me would love to meet Moses or Rachel. However, I would probably end up with Maimonides. There’s a lot I want to hear from him.
